Taylor Swift Wants All Racist Statues In Tennessee Removed
Taylor Swift is challenging her home state of Tennessee! She wants all public statues of “racist historical figures” and “white supremacists” to be removed. Taylor Swift addressed the Capital Commission and the Tennessee Historical Commission on Instagram, asking that the organizations “consider the implications of how hurtful it would be to continue fighting for these monuments. When you fight to honor racists, you show black Tennesseans and all of their allies where you stand, and you continue this cycle of hurt. You can’t change history, but you can change this." Protesters in both the US and UK have been toppling statues of controversial historical figures throughout the month of June. In Louisiana, a few of the Confederate statues and memorials have been removed in the past few years, but more than 30 are still standing. There's a petition is circulating on Change.org that suggests that the statues should be replaced with statues of "an actual Louisiana hero and influential human being, Britney Spears." More than 20,000 people have signed the petition!
Jay Pharoah Shares Video Of The Police Kneeling On His Neck
Former Saturday Night Live castmember Jay Pharoah has come forward and said, "I could have easily been an Ahmaud Arbery or a George Floyd." He was walking along Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles when several cops pulled their guns and stopped him, with one eventually kneeling on his neck. Jay Pharoah said, "I was exercising, as I'm walking across the street … I see an officer to the left of me. I'm not thinking anything of it because I’m a law abiding citizen... I see him coming with guns blazing, I see him say, 'Get on the ground, put your hands up like you’re an airplane.'" The officers then told Jay Pharoah that he fit the description of someone they were looking for: a black man in a gray T-shirt and sweatpants. He told them to Google him, saying, "You will see that you made a big mistake." After he was handcuffed, the officers let him go and apologized when they got a call saying the suspect had been found.
