George Stephanopoulos wants the Jeopardy hosting job
Following Alex Trebek’s death on Sunday, there's rumors going around that reps for George Stephanopoulos are already pitching the ABC News anchor to become the next host of Jeopardy! A source close to George Stephanopoulos denied that he was “actively” pursuing the role, saying, “Of course he’s not lobbying…how disrespectful would that be to Alex’s family.” However, other insiders are saying that he's had his eye on the position for years. Back in May, George Stephanopoulos told an interviewer he was interested in the role, but that whoever takes over for Alex Trebek would have “big shoes to fill.”
ABC announces a new Celebrity Wheel Of Fortune spinoff
ABC has announced a straight-to-series order for Celebrity Wheel Of Fortune. When the show will air is yet to be determined, but Pat Sajak and Vanna White will return to host the spinoff that sees celebrity contestants competing for a $1 million cash prize. The money will then be donated to the charity of their choice. Celebrity versions of shows have been doing very well recently. Jimmy Kimmel hosts a celebrity version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Steve Harvey has Celebrity Family Feud, and Tyra Banks has now taken over hosting Dancing With The Stars. Wheel Of Fortune has already been renewed through 2023.
Survivor, Big Brother casts will be 50% people-of-color
CBS announced a new diversity pledge for their reality shows. That pledge is that all future casts will contain at least 50% people of color. That means shows like Survivor, Big Brother, and Love Island will be far more diverse starting with the 2021-2022 season. George Cheeks, the president and chief executive officer for the CBS Entertainment Group said, "The reality TV genre is an area that’s especially underrepresented, and needs to be more inclusive across development, casting, production and all phases of storytelling... the commitments announced today are important first steps in sourcing new voices to create content and further expanding the diversity in our unscripted programming, as well as on our network." This move comes after several Survivor contestants spoke out about the lack of diversity in the long-running show's cast.
